Liverpool fans will be relieved to hear there has been a positive development in the future of star centre-back Ibrahima Konate.
The France international is in the final year of his contract at Anfield, which has led to much speculation about his future.
However, according to Defensa Central, Liverpool are now confident of signing Konate to a new contract.
According to reports, this has led Real Madrid to consider other options instead, with players such as Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi and Nottingham Forest’s Murillo being mentioned as potential replacements.
This could ultimately be a huge boost for Liverpool, as they won’t have to enter the market for a new defender themselves.
Keeping Ibrahima Konate is Liverpool’s best option
Konate has been a solid partner alongside Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk in recent years and it will certainly be difficult to find a replacement for the 26-year-old.
It’s easy to imagine that Konate would be a great signing for Real Madrid, but perhaps they no longer have any optimism that a deal will go through.
It would have been a great business to sign Konate for free, but they likely have other options.
Liverpool wants to avoid another attack by Real Madrid
LFC fans will have a bad memory when it comes to players nearing the end of their contracts, as they lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this year.
The England international opted out of his contract and ended up swapping Anfield for the Bernabeu, so Konate may be tempted to do the same.
We’ll have to wait and see how this story develops, but this latest update suggests that Liverpool perhaps have more hope of keeping this particular contracted rebel.
