Bill Simmons flashed in comments from ESPN analysts on Jalen Brunson’s legacy after the New York Knicks won Game 6 against the Detroit Pistons.
There were seven assists as Jalen Brunson scored 40 points and seven assists in Game 6, and the New York Knicks won the series as the 116-113 winner.
He also won one of the best game winners of this year’s playoffs when he shot the ball over Ausar Thompson of the Detroit Pistons.
Branson, who had been out almost a month before the playoffs, returned to the team and was a mission man.
He averaged 31.5 ppg in the playoffs.
Branson was also a clutch, and he proved it with a 15-point fourth quarter display with the Pistons in Game 4.
However, Simmons was furious at some of the comments made by ESPN analyst Jay Williams at Branson.
Now, Simmons has never once suggested that Branson’s performance is not crucial to the Knicks’ playoff run.
What irritated him was former Duke player Williams’ massive admission to Branson.
Williams said:
“I don’t think they actually have a chance against the Boston Celtics, but I think we’re seeing the best Nick playing in that Nick uniform.
“I think we’re talking about him in that ability before it’s all said and done.”
Branson is in his third year and is leading the Knicks and has yet to lead them to the final of the conference.
He was great through his spells, but Branson leaves more to do before he can get closer to legends like Walt Frasier, Willis Reid and even Patrick Ewing.
Simmons left a message to repost a clip of Williams.
The 28-year-old signed the Knicks as a free agent after his stint with Dallas Maverick ended in the franchise. The franchise offered him a deal that Branson and his father found rude.
Since his arrival, he has sighed at Ah Relief, even making the franchise appear in the second round in nine years.
In three playoff campaigns with the Knicks, he averaged 30.5 ppg and 6.9 APG. This is sensational for point guard and Branson’s Game 6 performance, which helps only Michael Jordan to score a record he achieved previously.
He played injured and stepped up to the team at the moment of clutch.
The Knicks have been fighting players like Karl Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges, and while they’ve been consistent in the playoffs this season, he’s always stepping up.
When the Boston Celtics come next, Branson puts more pressure on him as the reigning champion backcourt consists of players like Julou Holiday and Derrick White.
These are both defenders on all defensive teams, making it difficult for Branson to score.
However, the Knicks player was always stepping up to every challenge he was thrown into, and was always on a big stage.
The Celtics are tough side, but Branson has the ability and if he plays well, the Knicks can surprise some of the series.
