The LA Lakers are set to sign former defenseman of the year.
Marcus Smart is on the verge of signing with the Los Angeles Lakers after agreeing to an acquisition with the Washington Wizards.
The Lakers will need to clear their pay space and are expected to cut their roster to bring smarter to a two-year $11 million contract.
Smart, 31, played for both the Memphis Grizzlies and the Washington Wizards last season and is now looking for a fresh start.
NBA fans responded shockingly to the news that the La Lakers are set to add Marcus Smart to their roster.
Shams Charania reported: “Marcus Smart agrees to acquire the deal with the Washington Wizards and clears the exemption before signing a two-year, $11 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.”
Charania also included a mockup of Marcus Smart wearing La Lakers Jersey.
Boston Celtics fan and broadcaster Bill Simmons responded with a very disgust to the first glimpse of Smart as a Laker.
He posted on X: “Oh, I’m blind!
Simmons had previously expressed fear that the Lakers could sign Al Horford, who is due to leave the Boston Celtics this offseason.
Horford’s future is unknown, but Brian Windhorst claims he’s closer to signing with the Golden State Warriors instead.
Marcus Smart was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 2014 and played a key role for them as they tried to walk their path to compete for the championship.
The Smart and the Celtics lost the 2022 final to the Warriors, and he was traded in 2023 as part of the Kristaps Porzingis contract.
This paid off with the Celtics winning the title without smart in 2024, but I’m still grateful for what he did for the franchise to help them get there.
He is now returning with a title contender and hopes to help the La Lakers improve their disappointing playoff efforts this past season.
