BMW and Ducati were once again affected by the latest changes in WorldSBK fuel flow

WorldSBK announced changes to fuel flow restrictions for both BMW and Ducati ahead of the second Czech Round this weekend in 2025.

This change occurs after reaching the second concession checkpoint in the 2025 season, with both manufacturers subject to the same Step 1 reduction of maximum fuel flow of 0.5kg/h.

However, the reasons given differ from brand to brand.

For BMW, the reason given was performance against the reduction threshold, which was strong enough for the step 1 reduction.

Meanwhile, Ducati is given the same Step 1 reduction because they have accumulated more than 12 concession points than the next manufacturer (i.e. the difference between the concession points accumulated by this year’s Ducati and the amount accumulated by the next manufacturer is 12 or more).

Both BMW and Ducati were given a 0.5kg/h reduction prior to the Dutch round at Assen, thus reducing the total maximum fuel flow by 47kg/h and 1kg/h of max fuel flow compared to all manufacturers.

Fuel flow can be adjusted after each concession checkpoint during the season. Therefore, the next opportunity for fuel flow to be adjusted will be after the sixth round of the season at Misano on June 13-15.

The 2025 season introduced variable fuel flow restrictions as a new performance balancing tool for superbikes around the world after the abandonment of previous RPM-based systems.
