Michael van der Mark has “good plans” at BMW after his WorldSBK career ends, according to the Munich brand’s management.

Van der Mark joined the BMW Factory WorldSBK Team in 2021 after spending four seasons with Yamaha.

The Dutchman took his first WorldSBK win on the then-new S1000 RR at the 2021 Portimao Superpole Race, and won again in Race 2 last year in the rain at Magny-Cours.

That’s why BMW Motorrad Motorsport boss Sven Blasch wants to keep van der Mark part of the Bavarian brand beyond the end of the 2025 WorldSBK season, when BMW will welcome Danilo Petrucci and Miguel Oliveira to the factory team.

Blasch said BMW was in “ongoing negotiations” with van der Mark to plan something for his career after the WorldSBK.

“It was clear that after we said he (van der Mark) would not continue on the World Superbike side, he immediately started talking with BMW about his future,” Blasch told WorldSBK.com at Estoril WorldSBK on Thursday, October 9.

“It is too early to announce anything, but we are in ongoing discussions.

“We have good plans for the future together and I hope we can discuss those soon as well.

“Mickey is essential for us. He has helped us a lot in the last few years, both on the World Superbike side and on the testing side, so I think we have a good future as well.”

Van der Mark has raced for BMW outside of the Superbike World Championship, and this year he competed in the World Endurance Championship, replacing Sylvain Guintoli at the Suzuka 8 Hours.

Jonathan Rea is also reportedly considering competing in the World Endurance Championship with BMW in 2026.
