Free agency period is one of the highlights of the NBA fans’ calendar. It’s always exciting to see players in different places.
Unfortunately, many stars are not available this summer, especially after LeBron James, James Harden and Kyrie Irving committed to existing teams.
But future decisions from Miles Turner, Jonathan Cuminga and Chris Paul will still generate a lot of plot.
Before free agency began on July 6th, ESPN expert Bobby Marks was named to the high-profile “wild card” team.
Marks expects Brooklyn Net to be one of the biggest spenders in free agency, as there is so much cap space to collaborate with.
The net is still in the rebuilding phase after Kevin Durant, Harden and Irving set off, but they will likely want to show improvements next season.
“Brooklyn will be a wild card in all of this as they have to spend 90% of their salary cap,” explained Marks.
“They basically have to spend $45 million by the first day of the regular season. Please note that in Brooklyn, the team is undertaking a bad contract and is part of a three-team deal.
“They are destinations for some pay dumps and contracts. So we’ll be keeping an eye on Brooklyn for the last few days.”
There is money on the net to punt on promising young players. Perhaps Cuminga and Quentin Grimes will not only fit the bill, but will also keep Cam Thomas.
The Net selected five players in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft: Egoldemin, Nolantraore, Drake Powell, Bensalaf and Danny Wolf.
In doing so, they broke the record for the most first-round draft selections by one team in one draft of NBA history.
Draft Picks | player |
8 | Port Louis Minamine (BUB) |
19 | Nolan Traore (France) |
twenty two | Drake Powell (North Carolina) |
26 | Venneur (Germany) |
27 | Danny Wolf (Michigan) |
The net only raised eyebrows by how many players were selected, but also by whom they chose in each draft.
Brian Windhorst commented on the Nets’ draft decision.
Of course, it’s too early to tell if they were successful or failed, but you’re sure you’re interested in the other front offices laughing at them.
