MEXICO CITY – Edgar Chaires met with the media on Wednesday ahead of his fight at the UFC at ESPN 64.
Chairless (11-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will assume CJ Vergara (12-6-1 MMA, 3-4 UFC) at the arena CDMX in Mexico City. On the media day of the event, Chairs was questioned by members of the media before his fight.
His UFC experience has been a top and bottom proposal so far, but the flyweight is a 3-1 favorite against Vergara to round out the reserve. He said he’s also looking at more than his victory bonus.
“(My loss to the van) was not physical. It was personal. There was nothing related to preparation, nothing related to conditioning,” Chairs told MMA Junkie on Media Day on Wednesday. “I felt ready, but it was something other than a combat game, and I am very focused right now and I am sure I will win on Saturday.
“I think it’s a fight. It’s what the crowd wants and what the crowd needs because of style. He’s the guy who chases it in battle. It’s the same for me. Since I first started with the UFC, I’ve been looking for bonuses.
The Chairs lost the DWCS fight in 2022, but they advanced to the promotion within less than a year anyway. He dropped his promotional debut to Tatsuro Tyra, and held a contest with Daniel Lacerda, then missed the weight badly for a rematch. Last September he was defeated by Joshua Van.
