The Boston Celtics are looking for answers after starting the season 0-3.
The Boston Celtics were expected to take a step back this season with Jayson Tatum sidelined with a torn right Achilles tendon, but this probably isn’t the start to the season they had envisioned.
The Celtics had to rely heavily on Jaylen Brown, and their frontcourt was thin.
The Celtics’ season is already getting out of hand, and Lou Williams suggested the team needs to make major changes to their rotation.
The Celtics may make changes to their starting lineup as the team needs a quick rebuild.
Lou Williams suggested that the Celtics should promote Anfernee Simons to the starter and return Peyton Pritchard to the bench as the team’s sixth man.
“The next step is to give Anfernee Simons a starting spot in this team, which is the position he is used to.
“That’s something he’s blossomed into. And then you have Peyton Pritchard, who blossomed in the sixth-man role as well.
“I’m all for players having the opportunity to move from the bench to starting jobs to advance their careers.
“But if we don’t do well, going 0-3 so far, we have to put another guy in that position and put him back on the bench.”
Pritchard was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year for the 2024-25 season last season, but was promoted to starter this season due to the Celtics’ situation.
Even with the increased workload, Pritchard’s numbers showed little improvement, and his 3-point shooting percentage dropped significantly.
As a starter, Pritchard has shot just 18.2 percent from 3-point range through three games. Last season, he shot 40.7 percent from three-balls.
It’s still too early, but if Pritchard can’t find his groove from downtown, the Celtics should consider switching things up and moving Pritchard back into a sixth-man role and starting Simmons.
