American Golfer Brandt Snedeker and Australia’s Geoff Ogilvy have been nominated for captains at the Medina Country Club outside Chicago in the Presidential Cup next year, the PGA Tour announced Tuesday.
The 16th Presidential Cup will be held from September 22nd to 27th, 2026 at Medina Country Club Course No. 3.
“To be honest with you, I was very humbled and a bit shocked,” Snedeker said during a conference call with a reporter on Tuesday. “I called a few weeks ago. I’m trying to get my head to know what this looks like and what it entails. It’s very humble to lead this team and be part of this great history of the Presidential Cup and the captain who came before me.”
The US team has dominated the Presidential Cup since its founding in 1994, earning a 13-1-1 record for international teams, including golfers from all over the world outside of Europe.
The American team won the latest edition of 18½-11½ at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Canada in September.
“It’s humble. It’s a great honor,” Ogilby said. “I’m really looking forward to it. Medina is where we’ve done a lot of work and my company has been in the last few years. It’s exciting. It’s obviously an away game, but it’s exciting to be taking part in a course that I’ve really known for the last few years.”
Snedeker, who won the tour nine times, competed in the 2013 Presidential Cup and was the captain’s assistant in 2024. He will be vice captain of this year’s Ryder Cup.
“Brandt is a proven leader on and off the golf course, from his year representing the United States in team competitions to building a family foundation that benefits children in their hometown of Tennessee,” PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. “I know he will become an incredible captain and asset for the US team in 2026.”
Ogilby, 47, was a three-time international team rival in 2007, 2009 and 2011.
Ogilvy, Cocking and Mead, the design company for Ogilvy’s golf course, oversaw the complete renovation of the No. 3 course of the Medinah Country Club in 2022 and 2023, adding new holes and re-routing existing holes.
“Jeff Ogilby is the perfect captain to lead international teams to Chicago in 2026, taking advantage of both his great history and the vast knowledge of Medina in the Presidential Cup,” Monaghan said. “Jeff will capitalize on the upward trends of international teams that have seen passionate levels of support from players and fans over the years.
