The Lakers in Los Angeles had a big offseason ahead of them, and Mark Walter got a big boost when they bought the team.
The Los Angeles Lakers were the third seed of the 2024-25 season, but were sent home in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs.
Obviously, the Lakers need to improve their offseason and bolster their roster in the hopes of winning another NBA championship.
Luka Doncic could play a big role in that, but before that, the former Dallas Mavericks superstar has made a big decision.
Playing in the iconic purple and gold franchise is an unparalleled experience for perhaps NBA superstars, including Doncic.
However, despite his back on Top Brass, don’t forget his connection to Maverick. While Doncic has not only proven his loyalty to the Lakers since it was traded, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst hopes to do one more thing for the 26-year-old.
“So, especially in the NBA, I’m a big act against the wordy guy, and this is where Luke can absolutely do it.
“So one of the most important things on the NBA-wide table this summer is whether Luka will sign an extension of his contract with the Lakers that can be done after August 2nd,” Windhorst said, standing up.
With Mark Walter buying the Lakers, finances are not expected to be an issue for the team. Despite knowing that, Windhorst hopes Don Sic will now show his commitment to the Lakers.
“He can sign up to 230 million people over four years. There’s a reason he might not want to sign four. He can potentially sign three people.
When the Mavericks traded Don Chick for the Lakers, it cost him a huge amount of money. There is no doubt that Doncic has not been himself since the move.
However, Windhorst hopes that Luka will recognize that playing for the Lakers is the best place he can imagine at this point in his career.
“Look, I thought the Lakers were a great place for him, even before this ownership changed,” Windhorst continued. “Now I’m going to tell him with his new potential investment, “You couldn’t have been in a better basketball situation in the world than the Lakers.” ”
“That being said, there will still be a bit of uncertainty until he enters that contract,” he concluded.
Well, as Windy stated, there is always a cloud of doubt about what Doncic wants to do, until he signs the dotted line.
But for now, the positive side is that Donsic is excited with Walter’s arrival. Plus, even in the worst-case scenario, Doncic is still on a contract until the end of the 2025-26 season if he doesn’t opt for the options for the final year player.
