British and Ireland’s Lions coach Andy Farrell has said that “one or two” spots are still open for his team, and Owen Farrell can still tour Australia.
Farrell was selected to a 38-man squad on Thursday, finding it includes 20-year-old England backrow Henry Pollock.
However, Andy’s son, Flyhalf Owen Farrell, was not included.
In November 2023, Owen Farrell announced he was leaving international rugby to “prioritize the spiritual well-being of him and his family.”
The following January, he left the Saracens of the English Clubside and joined France’s Top 14 Racing 92. In other words, he was no longer entitled to play for England.
He has not played international rugby since the 2023 World Cup, but Andy Farrell said his son Owen, who can play fly half and center, can still tour.
“Owen was clearly such an experienced player in the conversation, looking for his fourth tour and his leadership qualities,” Andy Farrell said.
“But it reached the point, like a few others, he was still trying to get back to fitness and find his way.
“There are 38 people selected, so some slots will remain open for us if necessary. Owen and a few others will be in that type of bracket.”
Finn Russell, Marcus Smith and Finn Smith were chosen by Farrell in the fly half.
