Rainster head coach Jack Nienabah fears Kaelan Doris suffered a “serious” shoulder injury.
Doris, 27, is a major candidate alongside England’s Maloydje to captain the Lions on his tour of Australia. However, Doris was injured in the semi-finals of Rainster’s Champions Cup in Northampton on Saturday.
Rainster has confirmed that Doris’ injuries require surgery and is scheduled to undergo procedures on Tuesday or Wednesday. All this leaves a lot of uncertainty about Doris’ fitness and future availability ahead of the Lions squad’s announcement on Thursday.
“He saw the experts, but I think we need to investigate further,” Ninabar told Doris’ Irish media. “I crossed my fingers as bad as we think, but in the past few months I’ve worked with Kaelan, he’s not necessarily the guy coming out of the pitch with injuries.
“So when I saw him subjectively coming out of the pitch on Saturday, I thought in my mind, ‘It has to be very serious.’
“We probably know more at the end of the week, but it’s my gut, it’s just my gut, I think it might be serious, but I say it might not be crossed, my fingers crossed.
If it’s four weeks, Doris misses the rest of Rainster’s season, but is good for the Lions’ first match against Argentina on June 20th. However, complications and structural damage lead to longer spells on the bystanders who control him from the tour.
This comes as a bitter blow to both Doris and the Lion. Doris missed his final Lions tour through a concussion and was widely recognized as a nailed starter for the tour this summer.
However, this shoulder injury places his chances in danger, and we see Itsje appearing as a clear frontline captaining the Lions against the Wallabies.
