MISSISASUGA, Ontario — Canadian star Brooke Henderson won her second CPKC Women’s Open title after defeating partner Minsey Lee on a stroke in her first victory in more than two and a half years.
Henderson closed the 4-under 68 at Mississau Gua Golf and Country Club, finishing at 269 under 269.
“It was beyond the special this week,” Henderson said. “It’s really cool to be able to finish it and roll the trophy up again.”
She later added:
Henderson beat the lead tie with a 6-foot birdie putt in par 3 14th in a tree-lined layout. On the short par 4 on the 17th, she had her own 12 footer to keep the lead, following Lee’s 13-foot birdie putt.
“I love traditional golf courses,” Henderson said. “I love tree-lined paths. It’s so comfortable like that, because being pretty close to the house was very similar to many of the courses I grew up in.”
Also, 27-year-old Henderson, the 2018 champion in Wascana, Saskatchewan, won his 14th LPGA Tour title since January 2023. She is from Smith Falls, Ontario.
“We haven’t been doing much to this point this year, and I feel this was meant to be,” Henderson said. “It felt like there were a lot of breaks today and this week, and that felt like it was meant.”
Lee won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June in Texas, winning her third major title and 11th LPGA Tour title.
“I had a solid performance so I can’t really say anything,” Lee said. “I’ve been played a bit. I guess.”
Japan’s Mao Saigo was third and third at the age of 69 after the winner of Oregon last week, 66-year-old Japanese player Akie Iwai led each of the first two rounds.
Aphrodite Deng, a 15-year-old Canadian amateur, tied up to second place after opening 66, had a 73, 20th place at 4 under.
“It’s really cool,” Den said. “I’m really grateful for the experience I’ve had in my home country.”
