Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. – Patrick Cantray created a 6-foot birdie putt to give Atlanta Drive a 6-5 victory in New York and a 1-0 lead in the top three finals of the first season of the TGL Indoor Golf League.
Xander Schauffele had the opportunity to send the match into a shootout with a 6-foot birdie putt, but caught the far right and went outside.
The second final match of the Tech League will be Tuesday night, with a third match soon followed if necessary.
The scores were tied at 2 after an alternate shot of nine holes. Cameron Young made a 9-foot Eagle putt to give New York a 4-2 lead as Atlanta challenged the hammer and was worth two points. Billy Horschel of Atlanta returned the favor and made an 11-foot birdie putt when New York threw a hammer.
Young got the 13th hole when Atlanta’s Justin Thomas made a bogey.
The winner on Tuesday won $9 million ($2.25 million) for each of the four players, with the runner-up sharing $4.5 million.
