MADRID – Carlos Alcaraz said Tuesday he is fine, but will wait for medical test results to decide whether he will play at the Madrid Open.
Third ranked Alcaraz needed treatment on his upper right foot when he was directly defeated by Holga Rune in the Barcelona Open Finals on Sunday.
“I feel physically healthy,” said the 21-year-old Spaniard. “I took the test and I’ll see what the results say. I’m used to playing with discomfort, so I hope I can play and enjoy Madrid.”
Alcaraz, who won the Monte Carlo earlier this month, is scheduled to host an opening match later this week. He is the second species.
Alcaraz won the Madrid titles in 2022 and 2023. He is in the same half draw as the fourth seed, three-time champion Novak Jjokovic.
Alexander Zverev, who overcame Alkaraz in the world’s second-place rankings after winning Munich last weekend, is Madrid’s top seed. Defending champion Andreil Brev is the seventh seed.
