After a disappointing showing in the 2025 NBA Playoffs, the Cleveland Cavaliers enter the new season with extremely high expectations.
There is no longer any margin for error for the Cleveland Cavaliers. For their core four, it’s win or lose.
The Cavaliers’ biggest offseason move was the acquisition of Lonzo Ball. They expect Ball to lead the second unit and be a difference-maker on defense.
The Cavaliers will also need to develop their young players internally this season. That includes Evan Mobley, who will be under tremendous pressure to perform at an All-NBA level this season.
Lonzo Ball has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, but is hoping for a fresh start with the Cavaliers.
Ball will be listed as a candidate for the first time in his career and step into a key role.
The Cavaliers will rely on Ball’s playmaking, offensive awareness and defensive playmaking off the bench.

NBA legend Carmelo Anthony talked about how dangerous the Cavaliers would be if Ball was at least 60 or 70 percent healthy this season.
“He can play defense. He’s a 6-foot-6 point guard. His IQ is one of the best in the NBA. He sees everything. He’s a floor general.
“He can score the basketball if he wants to. Now he has to be a little more consistent with his shooting. But if we get 60 or 70 percent of Lonzo Ball, that Cleveland team that we know he can do is dangerous.”
Mobley is also a player to watch. Mobley is expected to take the next step in his career and likely become an All-NBA type player.
Mobley has steadily improved with the Cavaliers since entering the league. He won the 2025 NBA Defensive Player of the Year award last season.
Anthony said if Mobley can add consistent 3-point shooting to his arsenal, he will be unstoppable in Cleveland this season.
“He’s got to take the next step. If Mobley drops those three balls, he’s going to be unstoppable.”
“What I think about Mobley is, is he tough enough to get through this and want it? Does he really want it from a toughness standpoint? Does Cleveland want it from a toughness standpoint?”
All eyes will be on the Cavaliers, who are aiming for a top spot in the playoffs.
