The Dallas Mavericks own the number one pick in this year’s NBA Draft and have placed them in order to select the generation of talent Cooper flags. The defense and versatility of Duke products is compared to Kevin Garnett and Kawi Leonard.

However, the swirling conversation about Dallas using that pick continues to win established stars instead. The most frequently mentioned name in trade debates is Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Giannis reportedly expressed openness to exploring options outside of Milwaukee, which has led the Mavericks to emerge as a potential destination. Many NBA insiders believe Dallas could be the perfect landing spot for two MVPs.

Boston Celtics legend Cedric Maxwell has recently become the latest voice to advocate for Giannis’ Flagg-for-Giannis swap. The former Finals MVP believes Dallas should prioritize proven products over promising outlook.

“I don’t know what Cooper is doing, but I do know what Giannis is doing. If I have the opportunity to do it and it resets, I’ll do that deal all day. I know what Giannis can do. He’s a proven product. He’s not a bass rider.

The veteran analyst highlighted how Giannis represents championship-level talent that can quickly raise the ceiling of Mavericks. Maxwell sees Greek freaks as a missing piece that could turn Dallas into a legal title contender.

Beyond individual talent, Maxwell believes that Giannis will completely complement Dallas’ existing core. The former Celt specifically highlighted how the Milwaukee star deals with the Mavericks’ biggest weaknesses while maximizing the veteran leadership.

“One of the things he brings is physicality. That’s something Mavs didn’t have. He, Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, bring them together in good health. All day long,” Maxwell said.

Giannis continues to be one of the NBA’s most dominant forces. In the 2024-25 season, he averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. His combination of size, athleticism and skills makes him formidable at both ends of the courthouse.

The Mavericks are facing a decision this summer that will change the pivotal franchise. They can either embrace the long-term potential of Cooper Flags or take advantage of acquiring a proven superstar with Giannis Anteto Compo.

Each pass has significant risks and rewards. Flagg represents a future with incredible but uncertain development.

Giannis offers immediate championship competition, but there are injuries concerns and age considerations.
