The Charleston Open will be the first WTA Tour Clay Tournament to use Electronic Line Call Live (ELC Live), the Women’s Tennis Governing Body said Wednesday.
The event, which runs from March 29th to April 6th, will use ELC Live Technology for “out” calls in qualifying and main draw matches.
“The introduction of electronic line calls at Credit One Charleston Open is a major milestone for all clay tournaments not just for Charleston, but for all the clay tournaments on the Hologic WTA Tour,” said tournament director Bob Moran.
“This groundbreaking technology will improve accuracy and consistency for calls between clay courts and set new standards for tennis.”
The technology will also be used at this year’s WTA Madrid and Italian openings. Both are WTA 1000 events.
