Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid have repeatedly linked to the movement of Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez, who is an important cog in the Blues system, and it has been reported that Enzo Maresca’s side can illuminate the exit to the Bernabeu in green.
Expectations were high when Chelsea jumped to around £107 million in the UK’s record fee for signing from Benfica in January 2023.
Signed with the aim of being a midfield leader, creative sparks, and a metronome of a game that is heavy on possession, Argentina arrived in fanfare, but early returns were mixed together to say the least.
Fernandez was at the heart of a racism scandal during the summer of 2024, attracting serious criticism for his inconsistent performance on the pitch for a year and a half at Stamford Bridge.
Fast forward to ever, the 24-year-old has worked to become an important star under Maresca as Fernandez began justifying his mammoth price tag for over two years.
Last season, Fernandez finished the campaign as Chelsea’s third-best performer – average match ratings, according to scoring six goals behind only Moises Caseco and Cole Palmer, registering seven more assists in a more advanced midfield role.

Maresca also made the captain of Fernandez last season. This was considered controversial at the time, but midfielders have repaid their faith by enjoying the stars of the past 12 months on this field.
His goals for Tottenham, Aston Villa and Liverpool are merely hidden by his winning performance against Real Betis in the Conference League final in May, while Fernandez also shined at the Club World Cup.
So far, South America has kickstarted 2025/2026 with Real Aprem. Notching goals and reaching the score sheet against Fest Ham, he is helping the London Derby win 2-0 in Chelsea’s London Derby.
Fernandez looks like a completely different player since Maresca took charge in the summer of 2024. His form has attracted serious interest from the real world.
Chelsea are ready to have Enzo Fernandez join Real Madrid in three important conditions
According to Defensa Central, Chelsea is actually thought to be ready to get Fernandez to join the Los Blancos, but three key conditions:
First, players must openly request a move to Spain. Second, Real should include midfielder Eduardo Camabinga, a seriously targeted player in 2026.
Third, Rial should “at least” provide an extra £44 million along with Kamavinga. So it appears that Florentino Perez knows exactly what it takes to seduce Chelsea’s rejuvenation star on his journey to Laliga.
Chelsea should not sell Enzo Fernandez to Real Madrid
Selling Fernandez genuinely is a huge mistake for Chelsea.
The ace of Inform became one of Maresca’s mid-heartbeats, and after a rocky start in the UK, he now appears to have invested over £100 million.
“Enzo is another top player, world class player,” said former Chelsea defender David Lewis.
“Sometimes, when collective outcomes are good, everyone judges individual performance in a different way. Enzo is great, and Chelsea has many examples to continue improving.”
Fernandez is in his best year. Having him leave now undermines long-term projects built around the potential of midfield general Rob Chelsea, as well as young people and elites.
From Kama Vivanga’s point of view as an alternative, this potential exchange would be extremely dangerous to say the least, as the Frenchman missed most of the 24/7 injury in a difficult campaign for him.
