Chelsea reportedly received a huge boost this summer as Liam Dellup snub England under 21 plays for the Blues at the Club World Cup.
Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswichtown. Despite his team’s relegation, I was impressed by the Premier League season.
The 22-year-old would have been lined up to play for England at the Under-21 Championships in Europe this summer, but the tournament will clash with the newly expanded Club World Cup.
Still, Delap appears to have given him an early boost on his arrival at Chelsea by turning down a chance to play for his country and prioritizing his club instead, according to the Daily Mail.
Liam Dellup can shine for Chelsea at the Club World Cup
The Club World Cup is an attractive tournament to watch Chelsea play against Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and other big clubs around the world.
The CFC previously won the trophy, but that was before it was expanded into major tournaments by FIFA.
Now even more money and fame will be attached to the competition, and CFCs will be desperate to win the trophy.
Delap could be the key to Enzo Maresca’s side and give them the striker they looked like they lacked in the season.
Can Liam end the curse of Chelsea No. 9?
Delap is given the number 9 shirt at Chelsea, and it’s fair to say it’s not always an easy number for the recent Stamford Bridge striker.
CFC fans hope Delap is better than several other big names, including Fernando Torres, Gonzalo Higuain, Romelu Lukaku, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
It’s not clear why Chelsea have so many issues when signing strikers, but it appears Dellup can defy that trend.
The former Manchester City young man shows tremendous potential in Ipswich and is ready to take this level.
