Chelsea are on the way to the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup, but are catching up to the transfer front line while the tournament is underway.
Chelsea watches Benfica and reach the Club World Cup quarterfinals
While Premier League rivals prepare for the preseason, Chelsea are active in the United States, and despite having to withstand the extra time and two hours of delays due to thunderstorms, they reached the Club World Cup quarterfinals in a dramatic way against Benfica.
After watching the Prime LaLiga Giants, Enzo Maresca hit with a long stop that Bruce had to navigate in a 4-1 victory, despite the Blues claiming the outcome they wanted.
“That’s a joke. So I said that. If they’ve already stopped six games, there’s something that’s probably not working. I’m not here to decide the rules. I’m not the one who decides the rules. I’m the last one. I’m talking as a manager. As a manager, it’s difficult to manage two hours.
“Personally, there are a few issues, but I’m not talking – I’m talking as a manager because when you’re trying to keep the game in two hours, they’re talking to the outside family for safety reasons.”
Nevertheless, Chelsea could face Manchester City in the semi-finals if both sides make much progress.
Blues came across some good news from the pitch as Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens agreed to a move to Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian is said to be ready to write a seven-year contract and join the Blues in a deal that exceeds £50 million.

Phillips: Chelsea adds Antonio Silva to the list of shortlists for defenders
According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea added Benfica defender Antonio Silva to their list of nominations after scouting during the season.
Of course, they got the extra opportunity to see him up close in their 4-1 victory over the Portuguese giants at the 16-year-old Club World Cup last year, but his teammate Thomas Araujo is now another potential recruit on their radar.

The Araujo mainly functions as a right back. This somewhat prevented the Blues from moving to pursue an “out and out central defender” at Stamford Bridge.
Nevertheless, Silva, labelled “incredible” by former Manchester City assistant coach Lilo, is said to have been very impressed with the scouts as they competed with Chelsea, and is currently under consideration in the club’s ranks.
With Maresca claiming the glory of the conference league along with his first top five finish, Silva could be the one who will take Chelsea to the next level on a hunt for more silverware.
