Chelsea was one of the clubs reportedly interested in signing Premier League rival Bournemouth’s Spanish International Dean Huyssen in the transfer window in the coming summer.
However, the Blues missed the central defender’s dive as Real Madrid, who was worth his release clause, officially signed him for £50 million.
But not everything is lost for the Premier League Giants.
Chelsea inquiry with Dean Huyssen’s alternative
Reports from Spain say Huyssen was Chelsea’s main target in the centre-back position, but is now lining up the dives of Lazio Titan Mario Gira.
Transfer focus
Mega Money deals, controversial moves, famous flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinions across Football FanCust.
The outlet claims that a former Real Madrid Academy alumnus has emerged as a priority target for the Blues after missing out on the Spanish giant Bournemouth Star.
It has been revealed that Lazio will be asking the 24-year-old Central Defender for a fee of £25 million. This is said to be not a problem for Chelsea from a financial standpoint.
With all this in mind, the club will have to hurry and act on a “priority” target to sign the Spaniards from their Serie A outfit, as they can enter this summer as a major upgrade to Toshin Adarabio.
Why Chelsea should sign Mario Guilla
The British defender, who signed from Fulham on a free transfer last summer, started 14 of his 21 appearances in the Premier League, but Chelsea was able to sign an even better centre-back by landing Gila.
The Lazio star averaged 2.7 tackles and interceptions and 4.9 duels per game in Serie A this season.
These statistics suggest that Gira can enter as a defensive upgrade for the current Chelsea centre-back due to his ability to win more tackles, intercepts and duels per game to reduce opposition attacks.
But the Bruce is a ball dominant team that needs enough centre-backs with enough ball to build Enzo Maresca’s offense, which Lazio Colossus certainly does.

As you can see in the table above, Gira is more progressive as a passerby and carrier from a more central defensive position than Toshin, with far more progressive passes and carry over the past 365 days.
Thus, the £25 million rated defender could appear as a major upgrade for the former Fulham man. Because he can offer more to the team as an out-and-out defender and as a progressive option to possess.

This is why Bruce needs to plummet to sign him as a replacement for Fuizen, as the 24-year-old star can improve Maresca’s sides on and off the ball.
