It was a strange season in the Premier League on 25/2024, in front of Chelsea’s goal. The Blues are one of the best scoring teams on top flights this season, improving only five times the 62 goals of that name. However, only Liverpool, who scored 81 goals, scored over 67.
So, in that sense, it wasn’t that bad for Bruce. However, they follow a modest goal and are still below the expected target. That metric suggests that the West London outfit is almost eight goals of what they should have, with the expected goal of 69.87xg tally.
With that in mind, it may not be so surprising that Chelsea is chasing the striker in the summer window.
The latest on Chelsea moves for strikers
One player who appears to be the target of some of the elite sides of the Premier League is RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesco. The 21-year-old is once again impressed by the Bundesliga side this term and could potentially transfer this summer.
Transfer focus
Mega Money deals, controversial moves, famous flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinions across Football FanCust.
According to a Catchoffside report, Chelsea is one of the sides believed to be “preparing” for Slovenia International bids, and is believed to “see Sesco as the top target” to enter the 2025 window.
But they are not alone in a striker race. Sesco, whose Leipzig is valued at £76 million, is a wanted candidate for the Premier League.
Chelsea’s “Big Six” rivals, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, all link to the striker’s summer moves. Outside of the Premier League, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain want to sign the Slovenians.
Why Sesko is a good signature
It was an impressive campaign for 21-year-old striker Sesco. He plays a key role for Leipzig in all competitions, leading the line alone or in front two. He played as the second striker and sometimes attacked the midfielders.
In total, Leipzig No. 30 played 43 games in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and registering six assists. This includes 13 goals and five assists in 31 appearances this season in the Bundesliga.
One of the eye-catching things about Slovenian attackers is his consistency in front of the goal. On top flights in Germany this semester, he has never been to run more than four games without a goal and shows that he can regularly find the back of the net.
Sesko certainly has a unique profile, with soccer talent scout Jacek Kulig being the person called “the perfect CF”. His ability to consistently score goals and play in a strike partnership between the two speaks volumes of his quality.
If the Bruce brings Sesco to Stamford Bridge, they may have players on a team that can be upgraded with Nicholas Jackson. Senegal International, despite being the first choice striker at Stamford Bridge, struggles with the consistent form of the term for Bruce.
In 29 Premier League matches this season, Jackson was behind the net in the 10th case. However, he recently beat a drought of 12 Premier League goals thanks to a goal in a 1-0 victory at Everton.
In fact, there are statistics via FBREF that suggest that Sesko is a Jackson upgrade. For example, the Leipzig man averages 0.38 goals per shot on target per 90 minutes, compared to Jackson’s 0.29 goals per shot in each game.

Don’t get it wrong, the deal signing Sesko this summer will be expensive. However, he could be the answer to Chelsea’s occasional struggles in front of goal, and he’s more consistent than Jackson throughout the season.
£76 million is a lot of money, but this seems like a deal that Chelsea can do to help them improve their fate from the perspective of achieving their goals.
