Chelsea has been home to countless attacking stars over the years, but not many have been able to match the level produced by Ivorian Striker’s Didier Drogba.
The forward joined the Blues from the League One outfit Marseille in the summer of 2004, and Jose Mourinho worked tirelessly to complete the contract that took him to Stamford Bridge.
Such a deal has proven to be a master stroke, and the now 47-year-old starred two separate spells in West London, claiming a total of 12 major trophies with the Blues.
Drogba scored a total of 164 goals during his time with the club, scoring the most important goal in history in the 2012 Champions League final.
But now, Enzo Maresca has no focus on what he wants to have his version of the amulet.
This summer, the latest on Chelsea’s pursuit of a new striker
Ipswichtown striker Liam Dellup has been highly promoted in his move to join Chelsea this summer, starring in the 22-year-old Premier League through 2024/25.
He was able to notch a total of 12 goals in 31 appearances for the tractor boy, leading to a link to Stamford Bridge given the £30 million release clause.
However, it appears as if Maresca’s side is being supported in their pursuit for his signature.
Players like Jonathan David and Victor Osimhen have also been thrown into the mix recently, but Borussia Dortmund’s Talisman Self-Guirassy is the latest player to emerge as targets.
According to journalist Maurizio Russo, Bruce is currently leading the race at the age of 29. He has managed to score 28 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions this term.
Chelsea’s best striker since Drogba
Over the years, Chelsea have spent a lot of effort trying to carry out the role of centre-forward, but so far it hasn’t helped given the big hunt for new numbers.
Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata, Christopher Nkunku, and others all tried to solidify their place at the top of the pitch, but no one had done so successfully.
The hierarchy has thrown over £200 million in the aforementioned trio alone, highlighting the need to land the right stars to finish the hunt over the next few months.
Guinea’s forward Guilassi managed to do something if he completed his switch to the bridge this summer, but he never got cheaper and now has a £700 million release clause on his contract.
However, when comparing him to the current options at his manager’s disposal, he far outweighs both of them – showing what sensational signature he is in the quest for Premier League glory.
Labeled as “sensational” by one analyst, Guirassy outperformed Nicolas Jackson and Nkunku in 2024/25, but also registered his goal rating per goal on the target.

He also wins fouls around 90, but registers more shots per game.
However, the 29-year-old managed to dominate the air and won a duel that he entered the air, eventually allowing Maresca to have the target man he has been craving since joining last summer.
£70 million may seem like a mammoth amount for a player who enters the backend of his career, but Dortmund attackers have star quality to make an immediate impact in West London.
With the majority of the sides being filled with young people, the balance between them and Gilassy could be successful, and they have supported the club very much with title ambitions throughout 2025/26.
