Chelsea were beaten for the eighth Premier League this season, losing 1-0 to London’s rivals Arsenal in the Emirates on Sunday.
Mikel Merino’s header in the first half was enough to secure all three points on the home side, as Bruce relied on in the final third without Cole Palmer.
Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto were chosen for the flanks, combining zero shots on target and zero chances created for teammates in the match.
Unfortunately, the Chelsea winger has failed to make many impacts at the top end of the pitch. It has become a recurring theme for the club throughout the season.
Enzo Maresca’s wide forward has no assists of more than seven goals in the Premier League this quarter. This indicates that the last third failed to provide consistency.
Chelsea may now hope that teenage talent Astevao Willian will be here and provide what he has missed when he finally arrived at Cobham later this year.
Why Estebao Willian can solve Chelsea problems
Brazil International is not planning to officially sign the Blues until his 18th birthday. This will not be until April. This means they had to wait until next season to take them to the Stanford Bridge folding.
Estevao, the right-winger of trade, will play in this term in a difficult position for Chelsea in the Premier League.
The attacker shape of the 17-year-old Palmeiras suggests he could provide the consistency he lacked alongside Sancho, Noni Madueke, Mikailo Mudrick, Neto and others.
So far, Estevao has scored 20 goals and 10 assists in 59 appearances for Palmeiras at the first team level, and has scored five goals in 13 league matches in his current campaign.
As you can see in the clip above, the teenage sense has already had a great moment in his younger career, twisting Brazilian defenses and turning them inwards.
If he could translate these exciting performances into the UK in the summer, Chelsea could have had the winger they were screaming for because of their ability to score and support goals at impressive ratings.
However, Estebao has not yet tested himself outside his home country and remains an unknown amount at the Premier League and Champions League levels, so it is not certain that he will be successful as soon as he enters at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea hopes to be able to fulfill their potential with the Blues to avoid becoming the newest young player who can’t perform at Cobham before thriving elsewhere.
When Chelsea groped for one of England’s biggest gems
The club has found many very impressive young talents over the years. It is Maresca’s job to ensure that Estebao has the opportunity to succeed at Stamford Bridge.
Unfortunately, Michael Oris, Declan Rice, Jamal Musiala and others let go of the blues before they had the chance to show up on the senior side.
Chelsea’s most valuable former academy player | |

Jamal Musiara | £118 million |
Declan Rice | 93 million pounds |
Michael Ollies | 55m |
Levi Colwill | £46 million |
Jamie Gitens | £42 million |
Statistics through the Transfer Market |
As you can see in the table above, Levi Colwill is the only player in the top five most valuable former Chelsea Academy alumni who currently plays for his first team.
Muciara, who joined Bayern Munich at the U17 level in 2019, may be one star they have lost most of their time as his value surged to an astounding £118 million, earning 60 goals and 35 assists in 201 matches for the German side.
However, one lesser known fumble by Chelsea is that they missed the chance to house the English U21 international Ethan Nu Wanelli in the academy system, and he is now even more talented than Estebao.
Where are they now?
Your star player or biggest flop has left the club, what are they doing today? This article is part of Football Fancast’s Where Are Are They Series.
Transfermark doesn’t say the Arsenal star had a spell at the Chelsea academy, but gunner star Miles Lewis Skelly recently revealed that he and Nuwaneri were together when they were younger.
He told Arsenal’s website: “Before we joined Arsenal, we were in Chelsea together and we went up the ranks together, so we knew Ethan Nwaneri.”
Whether Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly belonged entirely to the academy system or not, we don’t know, but what we do know is that they got the opportunity to keep them in the club. Since then, the duo has become an important cog for Arsenal and has thrived under Mikel Arteta.
Nwaneri is said to be one of England’s biggest gems by talent scout Jacek Kulig and although a month younger than Estevao, he has already shown his quality in the Premier League and Champions League.

As you can see in the table above, Nwaneri scored eight goals and provided one assist in 12 starts as an offensive midfielder or right winger in three first-team competitions this season.
Unlike Estebao, which has been proven so far only in Brazil, the British phenomenon has emerged as a quality option for Mikel Arteta to summon the biggest stages of England and Europe.
Nwaneri, who became the youngest Premier League player in 181 days of history in 2022, scored eight goals in 31 games and started quickly at the senior level with the Gunners, getting better and better with first team exposure.
Therefore, Chelsea must regret that when they were at Cobham early in his career, they couldn’t hold onto him and Lewis Skelly.
Before the Brazilian forward took a step into Britain in the summer, Chelsea attackers have not proven themselves in the world’s biggest leagues and competitions.
However, the Blues hope Estevao will run at Stamford Bridge next season, surpassing the Premier League Arsenal Star and the Champions League.
