Chelsea will continue their transfer business next week after the Club World Cup final and have multiple areas to deal with. One signature you can create is the new goalkeeper, especially since the position was targeted at the beginning of the summer.
Mike Maignan’s deal was required, but that didn’t happen. And Chelsea is not expected to return to AC Milan’s goalkeeper. Instead, they are aiming for the Premier League market.
Chelsea and rival Man United for Emi Martinez
According to a soccer insider, Mick Brown revealed that Chelsea is interested in signing Emi Martinez of Aston Villa. He also believes he is more likely to close the deal compared to Man United.
“Man United can’t afford to sign Martinez while still having the onana, so their options are significantly limited as they appear to be struggling to sell.
“Martinez is a very good goalkeeper and from what I’ve heard, there are a few clubs that I know he’ll be available this summer, and one of those clubs is Chelsea, who is trying to strengthen in that position.
“In Chelsea, it’s not Man United, because they have around four goalkeepers, but they can sign Martinez and worry about what to do with the rest afterwards.
“United is in danger of missing the boat with this. They discussed it, but Chelsea hijacking looks.”
Man United has been following Martinez for a few weeks, but the deal looks difficult, especially as Aston Villa is looking for £40 million. Chelsea were able to pay this amount very much and decided to do so at some stage during the summer.
