Chelsea is interested in signing Lazio defender Mario Gira during the summer transfer period.
According to a report by La Lazio Siamo Noi, Chelsea, Tottenham and PSG are interested in the 24-year-old central defender. He has done very well with the Italian club and could prove to be an interesting takeover for Chelsea.
Chelsea can use Mario Gira
They need to be tightened in the back and signing quality defenders like Gira is one of their priorities. Gira has shown he is a reliable defender, and the opportunity to move into the Premier League could be exciting for him. It was a big step in his career and he could play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Chelsea have secured qualifying for the Champions League next season, and they could be an attractive destination for players. It remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old can be persuaded to join. The former Real Madrid player would want to test himself at a high level, and Chelsea was able to provide him with that platform.
However, the report argues that the Spanish defender praises manager Maurizio Sari and that the former Chelsea manager can play a key role in keeping Gila at Lazio. Gira has so far been on track under Sari at the Italian club.
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. Chelsea have the finances to submit favorable proposals for him, and the Italian club could be seduced. However, Real Madrid players also need to be persuaded.
Spurs are enthusiastic about players
Tottenham, on the other hand, also needs defensive reinforcements, especially if they lose Christian Romero in the summer.
It remains to be seen whether they will come forward with an official proposal to sign the 24-year-old in the coming weeks. They have ambitious projects, and they can also offer him Champions League football.
