Chris Cyborg has two more fights under the PFL banner before she calls it a career.
Over the past 20 years, Cyborg has established herself as one of the greatest female competitors in MMA history. During her 20-year stint in combat sports, she won titles in all major martial arts promotions, including Invicta FC, StrikeForce, UFC, Bellator, and PFL. She is also an undefeated professional boxer and a two-time IBJJF world champion.
But as they say, all good things must come to an end.
Confined to her 40th birthday, Cyborg has only had a few fights left in her career, including colliding this Saturday (May 17) due to a clash with Harris Mccray, a 4-1 standout and valuable Harris Mccray in Fight Night III in San Jose.
Once that little business is over, Cyborg plans to return to the PFL Smart Cage for a clash with undefeated Bellator standout Sarah Collins, which will become one of her two final fights.
“I believe she will be my next opponent,” Cyborg told Bloody Elbo when asked about a potential fight with Collins. “She is the next person in the line of the belt. Sarah Collins, the girl who defeated Leah McCourt, and she was the next challenger.”
Leah McCourt has long been considered the next woman to challenge the Cyborg at the Bellator Featherweight Championship. That was until Collins recorded a spectacular first-round submission victory over the Irish, moving McCoat 6-0 in the process and jumping.
“I believe she’ll be next,” Cyborg said of Collins. “I’m excited. I want to think about my next fight. I’m probably going to announce the next MMA fight after this (boxing) fight.”
Chris Cyborg confirms plans to retire
After notching nearly 40 career fights, including scraps containing some of the biggest names in WMMA history, including Gina Carano, Holly Holm, Amanda Nunes, Cat Zingano, and Shayna Baszler, the Cyborg finally wraps things around, leaving behind a generational heritage.
“I enjoy it. I think we’ll be at the end. It’s the end of the run,” Cyborg said. “So I’m really happy. I’ve been telling people, my legacy tour started with my final battle when I fought Pacheco. I’ve left two fights in my MMA career. I’m really happy.”
