Stephen Curry put the Golden State Warriors on his back during an incredible Game 3 victory over the Houston Rockets.
The Golden State Warriors didn’t have the second-best player, Jimmy Butler, in their third matchup in the first round against the Houston Rockets. Butler suffered a severe fall and a pelvic injury in the opening quarter of Game 2, allowing the Rockets to stomp Stephen Curry and raise the series.
Fans may have expected a similar result in Game 3, but Curry shows why he is one of the best offensive players ever, making some key adjustments with 36 points, 7 rebounds and nine assists before finishing.
One adjustable curry and head coach Steve Kerr paid dividends to weak warriors.
Curry is undoubtedly one of the best point guards of all time. While most of his peers are always elite passersby who find open men, Curry revolutionizes his position and emphasizes that having a shooting first lead guard can actually bring about team success.
Butler came out, Carr returned to Curry’s point guard roots, throwing the ball into an open shooter, bringing the ball onto the court and setting up the table for the attack.
Curry’s drawing defenders allowed Gary Payton II and Buddy Heald to go out of their own efficient way out.
“Stef thought it was really important to have the ball in his hand early from the backcourt,” Chris Mullin said.
“When he met half the court, he produced attacks and they doubled him. I thought his teammates did an amazing job of being aggressive early.”
He added: “Stef really analyzed the game and moved his teammates in the first quarter and took over from there.”
Curry ended the first half, where he only had 15 points on 11 shot attempts, but most of them were in very fierce contest. However, by using his often overlooked pass to open the floor, his defender had to lean forward a bit, shooting down the stretch.
“I can’t keep the game under control while I’m there and get the whole game crazy, so I’m trying to understand where to choose my spot and choose,” Curry explained how he created the ideal situation for him.
Curry was able to put his team on his shoulder, but he is naturally at his best when his team can provide support.
Payton II and Hield had solid games, but Jonathan Kuminga, Quentin Post, Brandin Podziemski, Draymond Green and Moses Moody went 18-2 from DEEP.
Curry can only do a lot if the shooters around him aren’t doing great things. The dub won as Houston shot 39.5% off the floor.
but, Athletic Anthony Slater reported that Butler “has a belief” to return to Game 4.
When Butler returns, the Rockets have to slip through the curry and he can play the traditional point guard role, but he is not responsible for the playmaking load at all, but he can remain a fatal scorer.
