manager Dave Roberts explained Wednesday that he hopes Taylor will have more opportunities to play. The roster, which was featured in the Los Angeles superstar, limited the time Taylor played.
To play more, Taylor will have to leave the after 10 seasons.
“He’s kind of the idea behind how it unfolded if he’s not here to play more and play elsewhere,” Roberts told Snation’s Doug McCain at a press conference Wednesday. “I admire him for betting on him.
The decision was influenced by Taylor’s wishes, but Roberts said it would be difficult to release the longest extended position player.
“It was tough,” Roberts said. “He handled the conversation really well.”
In his early seasons with the , Taylor was a regular on the field. The two-time World Series champions have become known for their defensive diversity.
Taylor left the mark for Los Angeles when he hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the nine innings of the 2021 NL wildcard game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
“He’s had many big moments for us in the postseason and played as many games as in history about the postseason experience,” Roberts said. “He always did what we asked and was on board.”
In addition to his contributions on the field, Roberts praised Taylor and his wife Mary for their philanthropy. The pair runs the CT3 Foundation. This will physically and financially support families during difficult times.
“Mary and Chris, what they did for the community on their foundations, they’re so many givers,” Roberts said.
As Taylor walks from his 10-year career with the , the 2021 NL All-Star will continue to influence the community and the MLB team he is involved in.
