One of the coaches of La Lakers and Slovenia has been working with Luka Doncic for a long time and has set some goals for him next season.
Luka Doncic took some major steps this offseason to deal with his biggest critics. After months of criticism for his conditioning, the Slovenian superstar will be working.
Donsic unveiled his new physique this offseason, showing off the hard work he spent trying to get him to the best of his career.
When Donsic signed the $165 million Lakers extension, he wanted to ensure he would become the best physical version of himself heading into a new season.
And that was exactly his plan, and shed light on his approach as a longtime coach for Donsic, who joined him on the Lakers and Slovenian national team.
Greg St. Jean, assistant coach of the La Lakers, who joined the staff of the Slovenian national team, spoke in an interview with Basket News about Luka Donsic and his recent physical transformation.
St. Jean praised Luka Donsic’s efforts, but noted that he must continue to work on conditioning throughout the season with the Lakers.
“I think he did an amazing job working hard all summer, and that’s what we’re waiting for and trying to see, but that’s the goal.
“He’s a guy who’s got a lot of heavy weight and he has a heavy load, so it’s going to be important to him as he continues to improve his conditioning. But we’re really proud of him and he’s done a great job so far.”
St. Jean has been the assistant coach of Doncic’s team since 2021 when he was with the Dallas Mavericks. Just a few months before Don Sic joined the Lakers, St. Jean accepted the role of JJ Redick’s coaching staff.
Greg St. Jean added that Luka Donsic’s physical transformation has not ended. And his time with the Slovenian team at Eurobasket is just a chapter on what his long-term goals are.
“I think it’s still a work in progress. I don’t think the summer is over yet, and he’ll continue to improve.
“He’s trained a lot, but now he’s going to compete 5-5. His game last week (the conversation took place on Friday) was the first time he’d played 5-5 in a long time.
“So, that’s an ongoing job. I’ll continue to watch him play more and more and prepare for the Lakers season as the tournament progresses.”
Unfortunately, after this interview, Donsic was injured. However, given the seriousness of the situation, the superstar has made the decision.
Luka Doncic is planning to stay in Slovenia and play with injuries. Hopefully this situation won’t hinder his upcoming season with the LA Lakers.
