Cody Brundage has not been defeated by record in his battle with Mansoor Abdul Malik in the UFC Atlanta Fight Card in June.
The Georgia State Athletic and Entertainment Committee ultimately voted to overturn the outcome from the technical decision, as confirmed by the MMA fight on Wednesday.
The committee has issued a statement that can be read below.
“Following an appeal hearing from Cody Brundage, GAEC reversed the results from June 14thth2025, an unanimous decision loss (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) to a majority draw (19-19, 19-19, 18-20).
“GAEC Rule 85-3-.16(h) states that incomplete rounds will not be scored. The third round was recorded on fight night and the scores scored were calculated. In a review of our rules application, the Attorney General today stated that GAEC Rule 85-3-.16 cannot compensate for the ABC Rule.”
The battle in question ended after a random head clash led to a finishing sequence in which Abdul Malik was originally declared the winner. The replay showed that the accidental headbutt was a drop in courage to the canvas rather than a legal strike, but the match had already been stopped at the third round moment.
Rather than declaring no contests, the referee decided to send the fight to the scorecard.
That didn’t work with brandage. He previously told MMA’s Fighting that he had planned to file an appeal for losses he didn’t think he deserved his record.
“In Georgia rules, under their own two laws, people challenge some things and appeal certain decisions at the discretion of the judge or judgement. “However, in Georgia, in the MMA way, they do not win an unfinished round. They have won a total third round against Bylaw.
“The fouls had a direct impact on the fight. It wasn’t a foul that didn’t really affect it. Ending the fight and getting the 30th round is very crazy for me. I really don’t understand that. Another thing is, it’s not even uniform why they handle things like this.
It turns out that the committee agreed to the Brandage argument, and now his loss has been erased and replaced by a majority draw.
