Colby Covington faced Paddy Pimblett during UFC 314.
After Pinblett (23-3 MMA, 7-0 UFC) finished Michael Chandler on Saturday at the co-headliner at Miami’s Caseya Center, he crossed a pass with Covington backstage and the pair went for it. Pinblet speaks to his side of the story, where he accused Covington of using his name to maintain the relevance.
Covington (17-5 MMA, 12-5 UFC) is back.
“He loved to run my name out of his mouth in the media,” Covington told Full Send MMA. “He tells me every opportunity he gets, so I said, ‘Hey, what’s wrong, mate? You want to talk about me in my face now? Say something now.” When I fought in the title fight, he has nothing to say.
“He sat like a good little b*tch and didn’t say sh*t. He didn’t say f*cking nerd who loves his little sausage line, Ellen DeGeneres. He had nothing to say.
Pimblett is undefeated in the UFC, but Covington downplayed his resume. The former interim welterweight champion has two failed skids, but claimed his admiration is far more impressive. He’s willing to solve things with the pinblet, despite the fact that “buddy” has bigger fish to fry.
“But let’s talk about the facts. The fact is that his last three opponents’ consecutive losing streaks are 13 fight defeats,” Covington said. “A man is never going to reach the title fight. He will never be a champion. He will tweet sausages all day. That’s all. I am a real champion.
“I was here and I did it. He’s not fighting anyone who’s got a big losing streak. Tony Ferguson, losing seven battles straight. Michael Chandler (3) wins straight. Everyone knows he’s all hype.
