As rumors of Kevin Durant’s trade swirl, it appears that the Phoenix Suns are committed to building their future around Devin Booker.

The franchise is preparing to make a massive financial commitment to Cornerstone players. Booker is eligible for a two-year, profitable two-year extension on July 6th, with the Suns planning to keep the franchise centerpiece out for the long term.

The All-Star Guard is currently in the second year of his four-year, $220 million contract, but still has over $180 million in the book.

A potential expansion will secure Devin Booker through the 2029-30 season, solidifying his legacy in the desert.

When Devin Booker signs a two-year extension with the Suns this offseason, he will sign a deal until 2030, winning $321 million.

This extension establishes Bookers among the NBA’s highest-paid players and creates important discussions across the basketball community.

Former Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons placed a strong emphasis on massive investments during his recent appearance on Run It Back Podcast.

“$75 million is a lot of money. I know his numbers have dropped this year. But this is a man who was pivotal for the summer with Team USA. I know how good he is,” explained Parsons.

“I think it’s a good step to not be a complete panic mode rebuild by signing your best player, Devin Booker.”

The Suns’ disappointing 2024-25 campaign finished 11th in the Western Conference with a 36-46 record, but Booker remained one of the few consistent performers.

Dynamic Guard averages 25.6 points, 7.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game, demonstrating its value as one of the league’s most complete offensive weapons. His production remained competitive even during Phoenix’s worst stretches.

Parsons drew a comparison between Booker’s trajectory and current rising star Anthony Edwards. “He’s 28. He’s cold blooded.

“They had a bad year, they didn’t win the game. Before all of this Anthony Edwards spoke, it was Devin Booker. So don’t forget how good he is.”

This commitment to Booker essentially confirms the organization’s decision to move on from Kevin Durant. The move could be expensive given the substantial assets Phoenix surrendered during Durant’s acquisition without securing a championship.

Several candidates have emerged as potential Durant destinations. The Oklahoma City Thunder, currently competing in the NBA Finals, is an interesting option for the veteran superstar.

The New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets also took part in the conversation, but the San Antonio Spurs can benefit from adding a Star Caliber Player to complete the roster under development. Durant’s next destination will have a major impact on the championship landscape.
