Bristol, England – Canada is confident that next week they will be able to win the Women’s Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham.
North American side destroyed New Zealand 34-19 in Bristol on Friday. Their victory began with a 25-minute blitz and three unanswered attempts against the defending champions who were slammed for a record-breaking World Cup defeat.
Tournament favourites with English or French hosts will face off in the second semi-finals on Saturday – awaiting Canada in the final.
Coach Kevin Ruet was bullish about his ambition to win the tournament for the first time.
“We came to win the World Cup, and that’s what we said before,” Ruwett told a post-game press conference.
“If you’re the second in the world and can’t win the World Cup, don’t come to the World Cup. That’s important to us. Whether it’s England or France, it’s not easy, but I’m already excited.”
Rouet’s side has to make history to win the trophy, but it broke a considerable record on Friday. A 15-point margin was New Zealand’s biggest defeat in the tournament, finishing with 18 consecutive World Cup victory for the Black Ferns.
Canada is currently unbeaten in their final three matches against New Zealand, with two wins and one draw.
Their performance was no exception, but they will have to go to another level in next week’s final.

Captain Alex Tessier did not hesitate when asked if her side would offer more.
“Yeah, I’m very confident in this team,” Tessier told reporters.
“There’s so much left in the tank. I said that before building all the matches before building after all training. Obviously, we’ll see the victory tonight and quickly focus (to England or France).
“This team has a lot of will and is excited.”
