Crystal Palace’s Captain Mark Guech’s future story has given an interesting twist in the minutes of the summer transfer window closures. The Eagles reached an agreement with Liverpool over the move of the defender, passing medical care before the move, but they finally got out of the contract after being defeated by Igor Giulio, who was considered a direct replacement.
According to multiple sources, the way the situation unfolded has been a huge disappointment for Guehi, who believes he was acting professionally and chooses not to strike to force the move. His contract expires at the end of the season. That is, the Palace is facing the prospect of losing England International without compensation next summer. They are ready to offer him a new and lucrative deal, but he is not going to sign the club again.
It would be hardly surprising to anyone that Liverpool will return and try to sign him with the fees cut in January. Certainly, such a move may not spare them at the end of the season with issues regarding Guehi’s potential competition. However, if Guehi remains in Selhurst Park past the winter window, the Palace loses nothing to waste no matter where you go.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has completed the signature of striker Alexander Isaac. He refused to play for Newcastle, and Brentford’s Joane Wissa joined Newcastle to increase his offensive rank. It is the fact that many people have come up with unprofessional behaviour from Isaac and Wissa that they appear to be slapped in the face to show his respect for the club, but are not noticed.
Interestingly, there appears to have been a kind of conflict between Palace President Steve Parish and manager Oliver Glasner on this front. Parrish has repeatedly stated that in his position as a man who cared for the club’s interests, a solution to the problem must be found, and that the club cannot afford to lose players like Guehi without compensation. Meanwhile, there are reports suggesting that Glasner, as the man in charge of the team, was clearly allowed to leave, and that he threatened to resign if the sale went on.
For the time being, there were no indications of refusing to play for the 25-year-old palace, but he is said to be considering giving up as captain now.
Guech scored a great goal in his victory over Palace’s Aston Villa on Sunday, but it will be interesting to see if he will play when the Eagles play Sunderland at home after an international break.
