Crystal Palace could be set to lose some of its most important players this summer despite playing in the Europa League next season. Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton are both linked to other Premier League clubs, and star striker Jean-Philippe Mateta could also move.
Ever since Oliver Glasner arrived at Crystal Palace, Mateta has been in great shape. The 27-year-old scored 19 goals during the 2023-24 season, followed by another 17 from 2024-25.
Naturally, this form has seen the clubs have an interest in Mateta. Man United has put him on the list this summer, but it is speculated that he will return to France.
Jean to Philippe Mateta provided Crystal Palace exit route
As reported by L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), Mateta was offered to Marseille. Marseille hopes to sign a new striker before returning to the Champions League next season. It is unclear whether Crystal Palace or his representative took this step, but given his importance at Selhurst Park, it could have been the latter.
And fortunately, for Crystal Palace, Marseille refused the chance to make a move for Mateta. They are believed to be interested, but they believe they cannot afford to buy a summer deal. So the Ligue 1 side is now looking elsewhere.
Crystal Palace will be desperate to maintain the services of Mateta this summer. Especially considering that there is a high possibility that Eze will move forward. The Europa League football seduction should persuade him to stay in London for at least another season, but it is important to remember that he is on the contract until 2027.
Therefore, a new contract move must occur soon to ensure that his future remains at Selhurst Park.
