Devin Booker has been the cornerstone of the Phoenix Suns franchise since his draft in 2013.
Since he worked with the team, they have been to reach the NBA Finals in 2021 from suffering at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.
Their development was pushed back several years after some mismanagement mistakes in the front office, but Devin Booker was patient throughout.
He recently signed a two-year, $145 million extension with the Phoenix Suns. This shows that Booker is committed to the team.
His loyalty to the city of Phoenix helped him gain a lot of praise from the NBA community.
Damien Lillard returned to the Portland Trail Blazers after two years of stint with the Milwaukee Bucks.
He was abandoned by the 2021 champions and was interested in teams like the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics getting his services, but Lillard decided to move on to the team that drafted him.
Lillard was in the Formula Zero 2025 Elite Camp and was asked about his thoughts on Booker and his loyalty to the Sons.
The 9th All-Star said:
“He stands in his square about what he wants to achieve, not everyone else is doing, what he thinks is the right thing. He stands in what he wants to do and who he is. I think that’s the most important thing.”
Last season, the Suns had many issues with the compatibility of three-star Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beale. But with Durant and beer gone, it’s Booker who will be holding the show in Phoenix.
He is now similar to help Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks (both valuable NBA players) lead the franchise path.
The center position was also a big question mark for the Suns last season, but with the addition of players like Mark Williams, Nick Richards and Rookie Kaman Maulach, the Suns are now deep.
After adding a few players to fit the roster, the Suns look better than last season, but they still need point guards to compete.
It’s unlikely they’ll trade for a big player. So, Booker may have to play as their main playmaker.
He averaged a career-high 7.1 assists last season. This shows Booker can play as a point guard, but if the Suns want to make the most of him, they will have to play that position to other players.
season | assist |
2024-25 | 7.1 |
2023-24 | 6.9 |
2022-23 | 5.5 |
The four-time All-Star had his most successful season with Chris Paul as point guard next to him. Not only did he get great in the regular season, but Booker stepped up into the playoffs as he had CP3 to handle the ball.
There may be an array of point guards that will become free agents, including Trey Young next season.
