MUNICH – British golfer Daniel Brown shed tears after experiencing the “outer body experience” that won the BMW International Open in two strokes on Sunday a few days after his best friend’s death.

Ranked No. 170, Brown shot a bogeyless 6-under 66 in the final round after the 2023 ISPS Handa World Invitational, winning his second European Tour title.

After making his sixth and final birdie on the 18th, Brown began to walk from the green and cry.

“Last weekend I lost a friend at home,” Brown said. “That’s for him.”

Brown said he had a motive to win at the golf club Munich Eichnelith.

“For the last two days I kept thinking about him,” he said. “I tried not to get too emotional in the process. I’m not very sure what happened today. It was really like an outside experience all day.

“He was with me,” Brown added.

Brown started countryman Jordan Smith with a one-shot lead, birding four of his first six holes and picked up two more birdies to finish with a 22-under par that week.

Brown, 30, has not finished in the top 10 at the Qatar Masters since February.

Smith shot a 67 and was alone in second place.
