Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts announced that Tyler Glasnow will start Game 3 of the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, and Shohei Ohtani will start Game 4.

More news: announce lineup for NLCS Game 2 vs. Brewers

Manager Roberts said Ohtani would only pitch once in this series, so it wasn’t surprising that Glasnow would pitch in Game 3 and then possibly Game 7.

However, Roberts added some interesting information by saying that Ohtani could be used as a reliever in Game 7.

“Shohei can rest. If we need him out of the pen for Game 7, we might use him,” Roberts said. “Game 3, we feel like Tyler is resting regularly, so it will be the same for him as well.”

Dave Roberts said Shohei Ohtani will start Game 4 and could come out of the bullpen for Game 7.

This is the first time that Ohtani has mentioned the possibility of pitching in relief this postseason.

Ohtani has pitched once so far this postseason, starting Game 1 of the National League District Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. He pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs with nine strikeouts, and ultimately earned the win.

Meanwhile, Glasnow has pitched twice this postseason, once as a starter and once as a reliever.

He relieved Ohtani in Game 1 of the NLDS, pitching 1.2 innings and a shutout. After that, he pitched in Game 4 and pitched 6 innings with 8 strikeouts and a shutout.

If the series goes beyond four games, the would likely line up as follows:

  • Game 5: Blake Snell
  • Game 6: Yoshinobu Yamamoto
  • Game 7: Tyler Glasnow (Shohei Ohtani available as a reliever)
