The Los Angeles beat the Cincinnati Reds in the first game of the Wild Card Series at Stadium, but ahead of the contest, manager Dave Roberts spoke about the shift in his thinking heading towards baseball in October.

“I remember when we won in 2020,” Roberts told USA Today’s Bob Knight Engale.
“I think I’ve learned to appreciate victory more than ever, even small things. If you can’t enjoy these victory, there’s too much negativity around the work.
“If you’re not enjoying victory, you’re preparing yourself for failure.”
This was the right mindset, especially before the game that featured a starting pitcher gem that was quickly connected to the bullpen (as fans have seen this month again). There was a lot to look down after eight innings from the eight bullpen on Tuesday on 59 pitches, but as the skipper said, the failures are right around the corner without enjoying the victory.
It’s the 13 first win needed for the to win their second title, even if their score remains at 10-2 after Blakesnell’s seven innings.
Roberts also spoke about how his life has changed since taking over from LA in 2016, believing that he had succeeded in the relationships he had built throughout the organization.
“My quality of work life is now much better,” says Roberts. “Ten years later, I have built trust and relationships with players, coaches and front offices. I feel that the relationships at work are as good as ever.”
Robert’s worst season at the helm is in terms of victory rates. only He won 91 games and a division title. He has four National League pennants and World Series ring pairs in his name, but the third commissioner trophy to add to his resume will put him in the elite company.
