Roberts revealed that Rush will be rushing Thursday to start his first career MLB as a catcher.
He also made it clear that this would become his defensive position in the near future, not outfield. According to Roberts, Rush will also be used as a left-handed pinch hitter from the bench.
He has posted monster numbers in Triple A this season, so Rush doesn’t come out of the regular left-handed bench.

The skipper acknowledged the potential downsides with fewer at-bats, but ultimately nurturing top prospects will bring confidence to young catchers and start working with others around the organization rather than starting that process later in the season.
