The Los Angeles have suffered many injuries this season, which appears to be the first back-to-back champion of baseball for a quarter-century.
2024 NLCS MVP Tommy Edman, one of the latest stars who had to miss time on the injured list, hasn’t been exactly the same since his return. Manager Dave Roberts spoke about what he believes is happening to the utility man during his rough path.

“Even a little before he goes to IL,” Roberts said. “I don’t think he was in a particularly good place, and that’s right-handed and left-handed. I think Tommy is chasing him a lot more.
In the 10 games before hitting IL, Edman had a slash line of .211/.273/.421.
Roberts previously spoke about his reasons for giving such a long rope to the struggling Michael Comfort, most of which came from the works Comfort put in regarding his bat path.
Similarly, Edman is ranked among the 88th percentile of MLB for hits with his ideal launch angle (8-32 degrees) and bat sweet spot. Conversely, he is a below average hard hit percentage batter, as only 42.7% of his hits are above 95 mph.
“I think it’s the swing mechanic. I don’t think that’s the health part,” Roberts said. “I think he’s a swing mechanic.”
Edman appears to be perfectly healthy according to his manager, and the team’s decision to let him play as much as Post IL confirmed, confirms that, but the organization will likely tinker with his mechanisms and help him return to the same effectiveness that he began the season when he was one of the best batsmen in baseball.
