“He’s shattering,” added Roberts.
This is the first game Edman missed this season. The switch hitter has been one of the ‘ most productive batters this season, hitting .243 with eight home runs and 19 RBIs.
Edman served primarily as the ‘ first second baseman this year, but is regularly filled in at the center field. Edman’s Fielding is impressive as he is in the 98th percentile with outs above average (4) per baseball savant.
Roberts said the don’t have a daily second baseman or center fielder to open the 2025 season, and Edman’s versatility gives them more flexibility. He played both positions this year.
“I think it’s just going to stay fluid,” Roberts said. “I think it’s a position where there are different players who can play second base and centre field, so it’s not going to be a specific situation on the left and right.
“I think it’s just a spinning of Tommy (Edman), Kique (Hernandez), Miguiro (JAS) second base, Tommy in center field and Andy in center field (Page), so it’s kind of fluid.
The injury has caused the early, but Edman is thankfully taking his deserved break on Monday.
