Liverpool may have spent a lot of time in the summer, but there are every opportunity for them to move even more when the transfer window reopens in January. Specifically, there is room for the centre-back to arrive, considering Geovanni Leoni will be on the sidelines in the near future after tore the ACL.
Leoni was planning to join the summer and become one of the two central defenders to arrive at Anfield. I had to replace my Jarrel Quansah, but I also had a desire to upgrade my Joe Gomez. And we almost arrived at Marc Guehi, but the transaction was destroyed later in the transfer window.
Despite this, Guehi remains on Liverpool’s radar, with Leoni being particularly expected to leave in the long term and try again for him in January. However, it may not be the case now.
Liverpool has not planned Marc Guehi’s move in January
Speaking about NBC Sports, David Ornstein revealed that Liverpool has no intention of signing Guehi in January. Not only that, but there are currently no plans for the central defender to arrive at that time.
“They tried Marc Guech. They collapsed on the deadline and I think Liverpool will return for him in the summer of 2026. They don’t expect to leave Crystal Palace in January. In fact, Liverpool doesn’t expect to return to the centre in January.
Ornstein also said it would not be easy to sign Guehi next summer, even if he hasn’t signed a new Crystal Palace deal.
“Liverpool will likely be competitive with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.”
Guehi will be the top signature for Liverpool, but it seems unlikely that he will be able to secure his signature next summer. Nevertheless, there is confidence among club officials that he will still arrive at Anfield.
