Arsenal fans are relieved to hear that David Ornstein hasn’t heard anything about Real Madrid hijacking a deal with Martin Zubimendi.
Spanish International has long been strongly associated with the gunners, but they still seem to expect him to join them in the summer.
This was brought to fans during a Q&A session with Athletic, according to the latest news from Ornstein.
Zubimendi shines between in La Liga and it makes sense that he may be someone who works towards the radar of Real Madrid.
But Gooners can easily rest as Ornstein, one of the most trusted transfer journalists in the business, has heard nothing about the risk of this deal.
Martin Zubimendi still looks ready for Arsenal’s move, says David Ornstein
In response to questions about Zvimendi and Real Madrid, Ornstein said:
“Arsenal expects Zubimendi to be in the summer. I don’t know if that means it’s going to be done entirely, but for a while they’ve been working on what he’s coming in and a huge amount of work has come to that point.
“Andrea Berta will soon be launched as Edu’s permanent successor, so we hope we learn a little more about it and other areas.”
Arsenal can bring someone like Zubimendi to give Mikel Arteta more depth this summer, as both Gorginho and Thomas Party are heading towards the end of the contract.
On the other hand, Real Madrid already has a pretty decent option in the middle of the park, so perhaps there’s no need to prioritize that position for the time being.
