Jack Della Madarena is not the biggest fan of UFC welterweight champion Beral Muhammad’s fighting style.
Della Maddalena (17-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) will take on the welterweight title on May 10th at the UFC 315 Main Event (ESPN+Pay-Per-View, ESPN, ESPN+) at the Bell Centre in Montorial, Quebec, Canada.
Della Maddalena criticized Muhammad’s style in what is called the Striker vs. Grappler Matsup paper matchup, but admitted it was effective.
“He has no doubt a boring style of fighting,” Della Madarena told Fox Sports Australia. “He’s good at holding people down and getting victory, but he has fair play. (Georges Saint-Pierre) caused trouble that day because he’s a boring style, because he’s better than all-out people.
“So we have to give him credit. I think it’s definitely a boring style, but I think the victory is obviously his first goal and fair play, but I feel I can beat him.
Della Maddalena was defeated seven times and controlled for more than five minutes in a knockout victory over Gilbert Burns at UFC 299, resulting in the oddsmaker capturing him as a moderate underdog.
“We practiced that with Gilbert Burns,” Della Madarena said. “And I was able to constantly get back up and get up and cook him in the three rounds of battle. I can cook him and get a finish in the fight later. And I think there’s my advantage. Bell.”
