Derrick White talked about playing alongside new addition Josh Minott and what the star brings to the Boston Celtics.
One signing that very few people talked about during the offseason was Josh Minott joining the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics knew internally that they were not going to compete for an NBA championship after losing Jayson Tatum to injury and decided to gut their expensive roster in exchange for a role player.
The Celtics signed Minott as a free agent, but Minott left the Minnesota Timberwolves after leading the team to the Western Conference Finals. Jaylen Brown even said the Celtics should have signed Minot years ago.
Minott quickly earned the admiration of Joe Mazzula and worked his way into the team’s rotation without much difficulty.
Derrick White recently sat down with streamer N3on on his podcast, and the two had a conversation about his new teammates with the Boston Celtics.
When discussing what he would like Josh Minott to do with the Boston Celtics, White admitted that he wants the underrated star to prove people wrong and make a name for himself.
“I think it’s probably Josh Minott. He’s in his fourth year in the league. He never got a chance in Minnesota.
“He didn’t get a lot of time there. So he’s coming here hungry for this opportunity and excited. We’re going to need him to play and do a lot.”
“He has a lot of talent, he can do a little bit of everything on both sides of the court.
“A player like that has to have that dog-like energy because this might be his first opportunity to prove himself and make his mark in the NBA. I’m excited for Josh, and we have several players like that.”
Derrick White also talked about Anfernee Simons joining the Celtics this summer and what he can bring to the team, especially as a scorer.
“We talked about (Anfernee Simons). He’s accomplished a lot in this league. He’s scored at a high level. So it’s exciting for him to come here from Portland and understand our system.”
The Celtics have started the season with 0 wins and 3 losses so far. While these new contracts are good additions to their roster, the Celtics are really feeling the absence of Jayson Tatum.
Going forward, the Celtics will be hoping to get through the rest of the season. However, given the exciting 2026 NBA Draft class, it may make sense for the Celtics to keep losing in order to improve their odds of landing a top pick.
