Khamzat Chimaev left “Chi-Town” with two belts.
After offering one of the most dominant performances in UFC history, Chimaev was crowned the new middleweight champion and ended the title reign of Dorikas Duplesis 19 months later. But that’s not all that Chimaev achieved. Borz’ was also awarded the BJJ Black Belt after pinning “DDP” to the mat for over 21 minutes of five round events.
In the past, former lightweight Islamic King Makhachev has called for fighters for receiving a black belt without earning a full amount. However, former three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen is not necessarily the case for Chimaev’s impressive show at UFC 319.
“He was given his black strip tonight,” Sungnen said on his YouTube channel. “Now, Islam’s Makhachev was calling out, and what Islam really did is to call reality in our attention.
And when you look at Chimaev tonight, you all really respect his black belt and to this point he has done in this sport. I think you’re grateful for that. ”
Chimaev’s “DDP” defeat may have lacked the fireworks that people wanted, but there is no denying that it will be remembered as the complete destruction of the South African sense and the appearance of an unofficial boogieman in the UFC.
The only remaining question following Saturday’s festivities in Chicago is what’s next for Khamzat Chimaev?
