It started even before the first ball of the match was bowled. Suryakumar Yadav ignored Pakistani counterpart Salman Agha and did not engage in a customary handshake after throwing.
Once the match began, India wiped out Pakistan and restricted green men to 127/9. Kuldeep Yadav bagged three wickets, Axar Patel got two wickets, Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets, Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakravarthy bagged one wicket each.
Following the target, Abhishek Sharma gave India a great start and launched an attack on Pakistan’s bowling attack. India then lost some wickets but still in full control, and on the fifth ball of the 16th, Suryakumalyadav registered a dominant seven-wicket victory, denounced six times from Sufiyan Mukim.
Suryakumar Yadav walked the field right next to Shivam Dube following the end of the game, with no post-match handshake between the two teams.
Pakistan waited for a customary post-match handshake, but no one came out as the Indian team closed the door to their dressing room. It turns out to be a huge humiliation for Pakistan at the global stage
Suryakumar Yadav continues shaking hand snub
According to the latest report in India today, Suryakumar Yadav will continue to boycott handshakes against Pakistan if the teams face each other several more times in the 2025 Asian Cup.
Not only that, the report revealed that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) would not impose sanctions on India for refusing to shake hands with Pakistan.
When asked to explain the reasons behind the big moves of India, he said, “There are a few things in life than sportsmanship.”
Pakistani skipper Salman Aga also boycotted the post-match presentation ceremony in response to India’s actions, and the PCB filed a complaint with the ICC to sack umpire Andy Paicroft.
The request to remove Andy Paicroft is likely to be rejected by the Jay Shah-led ICC, and in another development, the Pakistan Cricket Committee has stopped Usman Wahla, director of the International Cricket Operations, to “not take timely action” over the handshake controversy.
The reason they said they weren’t waving is because we are standing by the victims of Pahargam – Madhan Lal
At the post-match presentation ceremony, Suryakumaryadav dedicated his Indian victory to the army and expressed solidarity with the victims of the Pahargam terrorist attack.
Former cricketer Madhan Lal when asked in an exchange with ANI about Indian players who refuse to shake hands with Pakistani cricketers, he said:
“…That’s their call. The reason they mentioned that they weren’t waving is because we are standing by the victims of Pahargam. I don’t think terrorism and sports can go together. But at the end of the day it’s a game and you played and won.
